Rothman, a four year old Rothesay gelding maintained his consistent form this preparation with a very impressive win at Ipswich over 1350 metres.

This horse has always shown one of the most critical traits a racehorse can have which is the all-important turn of foot in his races. This turn of foot allows a horse to make their own luck in running although it can sometimes get them into trouble if the jockey is unaware. This was evident in his win on Wednesday when he displayed this change in pace.

Since being stepped up to 1350 metres at his last two starts Rothman has shown his appreciation for this longer trip, even though he finished an unlucky second at his first attempt at 1350m.

Rothman is greyhound like in the way he wants to find the fence for guidance in his races. This is something jockey Ryan Wiggins is aware of, now having ridden Rothman for two wins and a second placing from three rides.

This promising horse was identified by Liam’s Racing Manager, Scott Livermore as a horse which had potential and was then purchased through the March 2019 Inglis Online sale as a tried horse for $42,500.  At the time Rothman appeared to be a typical Rothesay in that he was not a 2yo and looked as though he would continue to get better as he matures at 3, 4 & 5. His racing pattern seemed very similar to that of other Rothesay horses Liam had in his stable in that they like to find their feet early before showing their customary turn of foot. Importantly Rothman was also paid up for QTIS and Magic Millions.

This win took Rothmans prizemoney since joining the Birchley stable to $45,250 surpassing his tried horse purchase price of $42,500 with more wins still to come.

On this occasion Rothman was strapped by Kane Anderton.
